Real Estate Marketing Glossary
Definition: Real Estate Farming
The phrase "real estate farming" refers to the act of marketing your real estate services to a farming area. So let's start with a definition of a farm area.
Farming Area: In real estate terms, this refers to the area where the real estate agent intends to do business. Logically, it is also the area where the agent will do most of his or her marketing.
It gets the name "farming area" because it's where you plant the "seeds" of future business. Farming area is often used interchangeably with "sphere of influence."
Real Estate Farming: Now that we know what a farming area is, the definition of real estate farming becomes more clear. It is the act of marketing to one's farming area, or sphere of influence.
Farming Tools & Techniques
There are many ways for real estate agents to communicate with a farming area. You might use PR techniques by getting yourself on a local news program geared toward real estate. You could conduct a home buying seminar to attract clients from your farming area. Or you could use the direct mail postcard (also known as the real estate farming postcard) to put yourself in front of people on a regular basis.
Use your imagination for real estate farming. Where there's a will ... there's a way!
The Name of This Website
I'm often asked where I got a website name as unusual as "ArmingYourFarming.com." Well, when I started this company, I was focusing on helping agents improve their neighborhood farming programs — namely through real estate farming postcards and the like.
While I still offer training on those subjects, this website (and the company behind it) has broadened to address all forms of real estate marketing, including real estate blogs, Internet marketing, SEO and beyond. But I've kept the original name because (A) it reminds me of my purpose, (B) it's easy to remember, (C) people know the name, and (D) I like things that are unusual.
