$66 million in mortgage relief for Utahns announced

Salt Lake City – Eligible Utah homeowners can now apply for mortgage assistance online at homeownersassistance.utah.gov. The state has $66 million in federal pandemic relief funds to help homeowners who are unable to pay their mortgages due to financial hardship associated with the Covid pandemic.

The first application period opens today and closes November 7, 2022. The program will initially be available to applicants with incomes equal to or less than 100 per cent the median income of the county area (AMI) in which the household resides, or 100% of the AMI for the United States, whichever is greater, and applicants facing immediate foreclosure.

“For Utahans facing economic uncertainty, there is nothing more important than knowing they can stay home,” said Nate McDonald, deputy director of the Department of Workforce Services. “We want to make sure that these funds go to those who really need it and who are at risk of losing their homes. To help make this program work as well as possible, we ask that only people who meet the income eligibility criteria and who are behind in payments apply so the system doesn’t get bogged down with requests. ineligible.

Eligible Utah homeowners must also have experienced documented financial hardship associated with Covid after January 21, 2020 and own the Utah property for which they are seeking assistance. Approved candidates will be required to participate in either owner counseling or an owner education program.

The Department of Workforce Services partnered with the Community Development Corporation of Utah to administer funding for the program. “We are pleased to help keep Utahns home through this program. Before applying, applicants should gather documents that will help expedite the process, including their latest mortgage statement, demand letter or foreclosure notice, income documents, and government-issued ID” , says Mike Akerlow, CEO of Community Development Corporation of Utah.
