Lake Charles, LA (KPLC) – The City of Lake Charles has announced additional funding for mortgages and rental assistance.
“Because of the coronavirus and obviously the natural disasters we’ve been through, a lot of people need help,” Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter said.
The City is teaming up with Catholic Charities and Project Build a Future to make this happen.
“Through Catholic Charities rent assistance is provided, CDBG-CV funds and through Project Build a Future mortgage assistance is provided from these funds,” said Hunter.
Using funds under the CARES Act, both programs will provide financial assistance to low to moderate income families living within city limits. Rent assistance will provide up to $ 650 once per 12 month period. The mortgage assistance provides a one-time grant of up to $ 6,000 and is expected to help 60 families who have fallen behind.
“Catholic Charities and Project Build a Future are two very reputable organizations, and they will be reviewing applicants to make sure they are eligible,” Hunter said.
In addition, the Town of Lake Charles would like to remind residents that funding is still available for water bill assistance.
“People have to live within city limits, and we can reduce their water bills. If they’re interested in this program, it’s still going on and there’s still money available, ”said Hunter.
